"Beautiful hotel with huge potential, but not quite 5-star in our experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐
We recently stayed at Mosay All Suite Hotel in Kos for 10 nights and overall had a lovely holiday. The hotel is aesthetically beautiful, in a fantastic location and has so much potential to be an exceptional 5-star property. However, there were a few things that we felt let the experience down and, for the price point, we expected a little more.
We stayed in a Beachfront Pool Room, which was absolutely beautiful. The room was very spacious, the bathroom was huge with a walk-in shower and his-and-hers sinks, and the balcony with our private pool was lovely. As we were in an end room, we also had direct access to the beach from our balcony, which was amazing. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the case for the other beachfront rooms, where you would need to walk around to access the beach.
The room was beautifully presented and our housekeeper was lovely and did a fantastic job. We had fresh towels every day and changing the bedding was easy using the card provided. However, we did feel there was a lack of storage. Although there was a large double wardrobe, there were no drawers or bedside cabinets, which made storing underwear, swimwear and smaller items quite difficult.
A slight disappointment was that there isn’t really a traditional swimming pool at the hotel. Instead, there are rooms with swim-up pools, which also double as the hotel’s swimming areas. As these areas are directly outside the rooms, we never used them, so there wasn’t really a communal pool where guests could properly swim or relax.
We were also disappointed with the pool towel arrangements. To change your pool towel, you have to go to reception, and you are limited to one towel per person per day. This meant that once the towels became wet, we couldn’t change them during the day. We completely understand the need to avoid excessive washing, but in a 5-star hotel we would expect to be able to change a wet pool towel at least once during the day.
Another slight disappointment was the amount of sunshine our private pool and balcony received. The sun loungers only really had sun until around 10am and the pool until around midday, which obviously isn’t something the hotel can completely control, but it did mean we couldn’t enjoy the pool as much as we’d hoped.
We also visited the spa for a couples’ experience to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and this was excellent. I pre-booked the experience via email, and the spa team were very helpful and efficient throughout the process. Our massage therapists were very good, and the treatment was relaxing and enjoyable. It is definitely worth visiting the spa during your stay.
The gym, however, was quite small. For such a new hotel, we expected a slightly better choice of equipment.
We stayed half board. Breakfast was nice, with a reasonable choice, and the setting in the hotel atrium is beautiful — light, airy and a lovely place to start the day. The show cooking was okay, although again, for a 5-star hotel at this price point, we expected a little more.
We were also disappointed that there were no ice creams available during the day. This would have been a welcome option, particularly given the hot weather and the hotel’s beachfront setting.
The evening half-board dining experience was probably our biggest disappointment. Rather than a buffet, you choose from a set menu, or you can use your half-board allowance towards the snack bar menu overlooking the beach. When we ate in the half-board restaurant, we were actually the only guests there, which made the atmosphere feel quite strange.
The food itself was well presented and generally tasted good, but the lack of atmosphere and the overall dining experience meant we didn’t return. We also had one evening in the à la carte restaurant, which you can use once during your stay and have to book in advance. Some of the food was very good, while other dishes were more average, but unfortunately the service really let the experience down. We waited around 20 minutes after finishing our main course for our plates to be cleared and for anyone to ask if we wanted dessert. In the end, we simply left without having dessert. For a 5-star hotel, we felt the service should have been much more attentive.
We therefore chose to use our half-board allowance at the beachfront snack bar instead, where the food was lovely and we really enjoyed the setting. Service could also be quite slow at times when ordering drinks, sauces and other extras, and on occasions the manner of service felt a little abrupt. The head waiter in the evening was excellent, though, and really did help to make the experience better.
Ultimately, we ate outside the hotel on four of our ten nights, which says quite a lot about the half-board dining experience for us.
The beach itself is beautiful and the daytime beach service was excellent — efficient, friendly and pleasant. Our only reservation was that the hotel sells sunbeds to non-residents as a beach club. While we completely understand the business model, we felt it slightly diluted the exclusive 5-star feel we were expecting as hotel guests. Also, the scan-and-order service on the beach was not working during our stay, so we had to order directly from the waiters, which was a little disappointing.
The reception team were excellent throughout our stay — friendly, efficient and helpful. We had a late flight home and were able to keep our room until 6pm for an additional €100, which was incredibly useful. However, given the amount we had already paid for a 10-night stay, we did feel the charge was quite high.
The location is very good. You’re right on a beautiful beach and it’s around a 20-minute walk into Kos Town, which we really enjoyed.
Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Mosay is a beautiful, stylish hotel in a fantastic location, and our beachfront pool room was definitely a highlight. The spa experience was also excellent and added a lovely touch to our anniversary celebration. The staff in certain areas, particularly housekeeping, reception, the spa team and the daytime beach team, were excellent.
However, for us, there are several areas that need improvement before we would consider it a true 5-star experience — particularly the dining service, evening atmosphere, storage in the rooms, air conditioning, the lack of a traditional communal swimming pool, the pool towel policy, the lack of daytime ice creams, the small gym and the beach ordering system.
We had a lovely holiday and would definitely recommend the hotel for its aesthetics, location, beach, beautiful rooms and spa, but at this price point we expected the service and overall experience to be consistently exceptional. With some improvements, we think Mosay could absolutely achieve that."
