"The hotel's location is excellent with a metro station entrance right outside the front door, and plenty of cafés, restaurants and even two Irish pubs nearby. It's also an easy downhill walk from the Gare du Nord. In contrast to a common issue in other hotels every October, the temperature in the room could be quickly increased, partly thanks to the room's small size. Although the bed was comfortable, it was the narrowest bed we've had in a 4-star hotel for a long time. There are power sockets on both sides of the bed. The television has a good choice of channels including BBC World. The wifi speed was around 200Mbps upstream and downstream, which is better than many 5-star hotels achieve. Breakfast was basic without a lot of choice, but it had everything we needed, including tasty sausages. However, there was a significant problem with the service. I e-mailed the hotel 3 days before our arrival to request bars of soap, flannels and slippers, as well as an upgrade in view of my IHG platinum status. After I chased up a response, Michela replied, assuring me that the hotel would do its best to satisfy my request. When we arrived, we had no upgrade, no bars of soap, no flannels and no slippers. We asked reception for flannels, but none were subsequently provided, so we found some ourselves on the housekeeping trolley. Slippers were eventually delivered to our room. Reception eventually told me that they have no bars of soap, only liquid, so why wasn't I told this in response to my e-mail so that we would have known to bring our own soap? Overall it was a very poor level of service from a hotel that is purportedly 4-star, and it consequently felt like poor value for money. The hotel gives late checkout only until IHG's standard 2pm, never until the typical 4pm elsewhere, and the hotel has a limit of late checkouts per floor. We were given late checkout only until 1pm in view of my IHG platinum status. Overall the negative side considerably outweighed the positive side. We are unlikely to return."

"My fourth stay at this holiday inn. Would wait until the breakfast room is remodeled to stay again. They have tried to use a room about one fifth the size to accommodate breakfast Either go when it opens or last thing as it’s a bun fight and you can wait 5 mins in line just to get to the coffee machine. I was there when the hotel was fully booked. The breakfast staff do a good job of coping w the crowds. Breakfast itself is average. Little in the way of fruit and mostly breads, cheese and ham or hot food that has been standing for ages This was the smallest room I have had- normally upgraded as a diamond member but not this time. Bathrooms have been updated and are clean and functional What made my stay particularly bad is the complete incompetence of the management when the fire alarm went off at 2am and knocked out the hot water. Zero messaging of what happened until you try to shower and it’s freezing cold. At 9am still nothing messaged in the elevators or any apology from staff I asked and was told yes no hot water. Very combative staff- asked where the manager was and told she is on her way. Not sure when she will arrive. This is now 7 hrs after the water had been knocked out and no manager on duty! She arrived at 9.45am and seemed surprised customers were upset. That no one from the management made any effort to come in early says all you need to know about their customer service. There is zero. Her reply I was asleep and it’s a long way for me to come and there is no one else IHG should look carefully at whether this hotel should be part of the chain. No night manager- actually no general manager on site. An assistant manager Jessica kilaa who seemed to care less. When I said maybe there should be a process in place for staff she said we do not do that here maybe in America. And what made it worse is the boiler is a known problem- look through previous reviews! Will stay away from this hotel until it comes under new ownership or management"
