"As soon as I got to my room, I knew I liked the hotel.
The balcony overlooks a beautiful, landscaped garden with a swimming pool. The garden has palm trees, banana trees, etc. inhabited by green parrots and other birds. It's like you're in a garden of paradise, but you're actually in the heart of the city. It's very quiet during the day, and at night there's complete peace and quiet.
The hotel is old, but it boasts a recent complete renovation. Now, a complete renovation means that they haven't changed most of the balcony doors, that they've replaced the curtains on the bathtub with a glass partition in the bathroom and put a new mirror, and everything else is 50 years old, that they've put laminate flooring on the rooms and common areas for 8 €/m2, so they should change it again soon, etc.
The hotel definitely has potential, especially because of its great location, but there's a lot of room for improvement.
Let's start with the good things first. The location is great for those who like a quiet vacation. A large garden with a swimming pool and plenty of space for sunbeds, which are some of the best I've used in hotels. The pool is large, for swimming, but unfortunately cold. The rooms are large, and the biggest plus is the hard mattresses and firm bed. The balcony is big. The cleanliness of the rooms and arrangement of the environment is at a high level.
The food in the restaurant far surpasses the price range for which you will get bed and breakfast or half board. Totally surprising.
By the way, hotels in Puerto de la Cruz are significantly cheaper than those in the south (I'll talk about that later, now that I understand why), so I expected a worse offer and quality of food, but TRH can handle the best hotels in the south (and far more expensive) in terms of food.
Parking is also very well arranged. If you reserve parking in advance, for €5 per day, you will get a spot near the hotel entrance.
Unfortunately, there are also bad things. At the reception you are greeted with an attitude, and what could you not have chosen another hotel.....they do everything professionally, but not a bit of the famous Spanish kindness.
As I said, the renovation should be done to the end; replace all the balcony doors, decorate the bathrooms, etc.
Today I swam in the sea, and yesterday in the hotel pool.....in some strange way, the sea is warmer, and the hotel will claim that they heat the pool water.....maybe they turned the switch wrong, so in fact they cool the water, I really don't know.
There is almost no animation, especially the evening show, but that is understandable. My wife and I, at almost 60 years old, were the youngest guests, so why animation for old people at all.
Overall a good hotel, with certain flaws, for a fair price.
The hotel is mostly German guests, who have been coming to this hotel for years. Many of them go on walking tours, for which this hotel is well positioned (next to a large, beautifully landscaped park), but also because of the city in which it is located.
Now comes the explanation why hotels in Puerto de la Cruz are much more affordable than those in the south. It is ideal here for those who like to explore the surroundings on foot or by bike, because it is definitely not nearly as warm as in the south. I have been to Tenerife 5 times and in 7 different hotels, but this is the 1st time that I have stayed somewhere outside the south (and the last). There is no sun in Puerto de la Cruz. Sometimes it is in the morning, rarely in the afternoon, and almost never all day. That is why there are a lot of cloudy days. There is also rain, which is almost unthinkable in the south of the island. Ideal for recreation, for lying by the pool or on the beach, a disaster. In 7 days, I got in the car for 5 days and went south or east (Las Teresitas) to be in the sun. Maybe it is different in other months, but I am always in Tenerife in January, and then in the south it is sunny 5 days a week, and here 2 days a week.
Because of the price, food and beautiful garden, I would come to this hotel again...if it were in the south."
