"We’ve just returned from a relaxing week in the sun after staying at Marsenses.
On arrival, we were offered a lovely and welcome glass of Cava. The receptionist was lovely and took the time to explain everything about the hotel.
ACCOMMODATION – Fine once the issues were resolved
The room itself was very clean, with a great shower, but unfortunately there were several issues on arrival.
Despite booking as Mr and Mrs and highlighting on the booking form that it was our wedding anniversary, we arrived to find two single beds. I returned to reception and this was later rectified with a mattress topper.
When unpacking, I also discovered that I couldn’t lock the safe and there was no key, so another trip to reception was required.
We then noticed that the shelf underneath the TV was coming away from the wall, the panel beside the TV was also coming away from the wall, and the shower head was broken.
Thankfully, the hotel was completely onboard with resolving everything. When we returned later, all the issues had been addressed and, as a lovely gesture, they had left us some cake and a bottle of fizz for the trouble.
Then, on the day of our wedding anniversary, they also left another bottle of fizz in our room, which was a really lovely touch and much appreciated
STAFF – 5 stars, all day and every day
The staff were beyond exceptional.
They genuinely cannot do enough for you, and the way they interact with each other is wonderful. They really are like one big happy family, and that atmosphere resonates with the guests.
FOOD – Well below par
Unfortunately, this was the biggest disappointment for us.
I defy anyone to say they didn’t have to chew some of the meat for an age!
The cooked hot food each evening was so overcooked that much of it was inedible. Whether it was pork, steak or lamb chops, everything seemed to be cooked well beyond what it should have been.
The paella was essentially spicy rice with very limited fish, while the meat paella was lacking in meat. We actually saw both being brought directly from the kitchen to the servery.
We also found that a lot of the fish contained bones, which I felt was unacceptable and should at least come with a warning.
On the positive side, the salads were great and enjoyable, and there was plenty of fresh fruit.
DRINKS – Reasonably priced
For a hotel, the drinks were well priced. The bottle of wine we had was reasonable and the bar drinks certainly weren’t a rip-off.
ENTERTAINMENT – Okay, but could be better
The entertainment was okay but could have been so much more.
A special mention to the wonderful couple who were the star dancers and really got everyone going – you know who you are!
The entertainment could also have lasted longer. An hour just isn’t enough, as most people seemed to have only just got into the atmosphere when it finished. Either start earlier or finish later, perhaps around 10:30pm.
POOL – Excellent
Congratulations to the pool team for keeping the area immaculate.
We are early risers, so we always managed to get a sunbed, and I genuinely didn’t see anyone struggling to find one. They are quite close together, but this wasn’t an issue for us.
It was also great to see higher sunbeds available for guests with disabilities, along with the access platforms into the pool. Well done to the hotel for being disability-friendly – the pool team deserve a well-earned pat on the back for this.
The pool area could perhaps have benefited from a little more music. It doesn’t need to be loud, but a bit of background music would add to the atmosphere.
It is quite quiet around the pool, which made it slightly confusing when a DJ was brought in to play a set. When the music suddenly started, it actually made some people jump – which was hilarious! It just felt like a bit of a mixed message.
LOCATION – Location, location, location!
Perfect.
WOULD I RETURN?
Probably not.
It’s not a cheap hotel, and for the price I would expect the food to be considerably better. Some rooms also have pretty disappointing views over the car park.
The staff, cleanliness, pool and location were all excellent, but unfortunately the food falls well below the standard I would expect for the price, and that would be the main reason I wouldn’t return.
Overall, we had a relaxing week and the staff really did make a positive impression. There are some great things about this hotel, but for us, the food lets it down too much."
