"Globales Don Pedro was, unfortunately, a complete disappointment for me. I genuinely cannot understand how this hotel holds a four-star rating. Based on my experience, I would consider it a three-star hotel at most – and even that feels generous in several respects.
I will start with the positives, because there were some. The view from our room over the bay was absolutely beautiful, and the hotel is surrounded by some lovely beaches with excellent opportunities for swimming and snorkelling, which was particularly important to me. The location also provides relatively easy access to beautiful historic towns such as Pollença and Alcúdia, which are well worth visiting. Unfortunately, these were by far the highlights of our stay.
There are several things I think future guests should be aware of.
If you are arriving after a very early flight, be prepared for the fact that rooms may not be available until 2 pm. After leaving home at two or three in the morning for a 6 am flight, being unable to access your room and rest for several more hours is extremely tiring.
Check-out is at 11 am. During busy periods, late check-out may not be available. The hotel does provide a shower room, but our experience of it was very poor. The water pressure was so weak that washing and properly rinsing your hair was practically impossible. There was also no air conditioning in the room. After showering, the room became so hot and humid that even getting dressed was uncomfortable. For guests with a late flight, this is worth knowing in advance.
Cleanliness was another major concern. In my opinion, the hotel simply does not feel particularly clean and is in serious need of refurbishment.
We stayed on the top floor, directly below the terrace, and during our stay maintenance or repair work was being carried out above us. Anyone hoping for an afternoon rest could forget about it because of the repeated banging and noise coming from the work above.
Another thing that surprised me was the lack of separation between the hotel and the public route to the beach. People regularly walked through the hotel grounds to reach the beach, including large groups and families with children. For a hotel marketed as adults-only, this significantly affected the atmosphere. I never really experienced the peaceful, adults-only environment I had expected.
More generally, the hotel lacks atmosphere and warmth. It gave me a strong impression that cost-cutting was a priority. One particularly strange example was the area around the bar in the evening. Guests would sometimes remain on the loungers there after dark, yet the area was barely illuminated. I actually saw people using the torches on their phones simply to see where they were going when getting up from the loungers. For me, this is not what I expect from a four-star hotel.
Food was another disappointment. Many dishes were extremely salty, the choice was limited and the presentation was often unappealing. Breakfast officially continued until 10 am, yet when we arrived at around 9:30 on some mornings, a considerable amount of food was already gone and was not replenished. Guests arriving during the advertised breakfast hours should reasonably expect the buffet still to be available.
Unfortunately, the reception experience did not improve matters. I rarely felt like a hotel guest; interactions sometimes felt more like dealing with an administrative office. The approach was often rigid rather than welcoming or solution-oriented.
A particularly frustrating example involved a car we rented through the hotel itself for one day. During the day, we wanted to return briefly for lunch and to freshen up before continuing our trip. We asked whether we could temporarily park in front of the hotel and were refused.
What made this especially difficult to understand was that the parking area was practically empty during most of our stay – often only one of approximately five spaces was occupied, sometimes by a motorbike.
When we explained that we were struggling to find anywhere to park, the response from reception was simply that we should keep driving around until we found a free space. It was a Sunday, when large numbers of local visitors had come to the surrounding beaches, so finding an available parking space was extremely difficult.
As a result, we spent over an hour of our valuable holiday time simply driving around looking for somewhere to leave the car – all because we were not permitted to use one of the empty spaces in front of the hotel for the short time needed to have lunch and freshen up.
Considering that the car had been arranged through the hotel itself, I found this lack of flexibility and understanding particularly disappointing. A little empathy and common sense from reception would have made such a difference.
There also seemed to be additional charges for many small things. For example, there was a €10-per-person deposit for pool/beach towels, which in itself is not unusual. What I found much harder to understand at an all-inclusive hotel was being charged €1.50 simply to exchange a used towel for a fresh one.
I travel frequently and have stayed in hotels in many different parts of the world, so my expectations are based on considerable experience rather than one isolated comparison. Unfortunately, Globales Don Pedro currently ranks at the very bottom of my hotel experiences.
The beautiful bay and surrounding beaches deserve praise, and the view from our room was genuinely wonderful. But a spectacular location cannot compensate for the hotel's shortcomings in cleanliness, maintenance, food, service, atmosphere and overall guest experience.
Based on my stay, I cannot recommend Globales Don Pedro, and I personally would not return."
