"We arrived about 22.00 h at reception, checkin was friendly and fun, but we were handed our reception drink during the checkin standing, not what we were expecting, usually it is served seated at a table, with a short hotel intro, but , as I was enjoying my drink of cava , I was told I could take it with me to our room, but how to get to the room? go to level 5, turn right, then left then right! we had no idea what a rabbit warren we were being released into, even seasoned guests could not direct us, so, still clutching my now empty cava glass, fter 20 minutes, THE BOSS has to go back down to reception, to restart the processs. At his stage I must explain, in normal 5 star service, being escorted to our room and bagss delivered, is normal for us, on second attempt, better explanation how to manouver the corridors, we finally found the room, but no thanks to the escoert as there was none, no normal inspection of the room, as expected, before we accept it, just a HERE IS YOUR KEY, YOUR VERBAL MAP WITH MANY GISTACULATIONS OF LEFT AND RIGHT. This is not 5 star service, not even 3 star.
The room looked very nice, lovely big bed, as we would expect, shower separate to bath, good, but the quality of the towels was BAD! It was almost in your face bad, now cpmplain if you must!
We dropped the bag, had a quick check in the mirror, and, given the late hour, decided to run down to get a bite to eat before everything closed up! No I know you are laughing! Not a bite, only room service, It was not yet 2300h.
A taxi, to somewhere, he was a great guy, found something open! saw many not open!
Morning came with a swish back of curtains, and we were met by a view of a carpark. The site was almost accepatble made so by the distant view of the mountains. Made us think where exactly was the 2021 volcano in relation to us. Those mountaind are magnificant! literally made a MOUNTAIN OF A MOLEHILL!
But the sun was shining! down for breakfast, lovely service, smiley happy staff, food ok, max 4 star, but adequate, and if that is what this hotel seems to aim for, well it met the mark! Sorry, as a coffee drinker, could not partake of the brown liquid offered in OVO! we headed out and down the walkway, along by magnificant Atlantic views, to buy a PROPER coffee. did that 7 times, bought my morning coffee! mostly at the bar on site from lovely friendly staff. So due a refunf there!
Then to the pool , we chose the QUIET area, but I have to say, the surroundings, the plants ,even a few singing birds, but we expected to find cushions for the loungers, delivered by a pool attendant! Normal 5 star service! No?
The sun was good!
Getting hungry about 13.00 we decided to try for a smal meal at the pool bar near the exit. All i can say is DO NOT ORDER A CKICKEN CAESAR SALAD. I ate the greens, left the maccerated chicken offering, nobody asked was it ok, why I did not eat it. 0 star!
But the sun was shining!
It was when we went back to our room on the second day, having had bought a coffee, had kunch out in the shopping area, that we noticed wallpaper falling off the wall, and on inspection, WHOA! BLACK MOULD! so it was not a recent occurance! Me, I hate mould! Coming from a background in health, I know the dangers! Does no one inspect the rooms? I really think it is a caseof, WAIT TILL THERE IS A COMPLAINT! As my memory has it, we were on the fifth floor, at 5155.
We simmered, opened the doors, and had a midday nap! Went out into the commercial area and had dinner!
The next morning, after breakfast, I, SHE, went to reception, and quietly an firmly expained the dituation, the mould, the something called chicken. the scratchy towels! I forgot about the coffee!
while were were being move to another room, it became clear they knew the mould was there! Can I sue for endagerment?!
Ina better room with a better view, but exposed to the noise ot the pool pump house under our balcony, we resigned to try our best to enjoy what was left of our holiday.
Would I stay there again/Never! Could i recommend it as a 5 star resort?Absoluteky not!
Met a lovely lady who paid her extra for the Euniqe experience! They had booked a twin room, but got a double, and for their own reasons did not want to share the bed! Now, this is 5 stat plus, supposedly. Management did nothing to fix the issue and she spent her 10 dys sleeping on a pull out sofa bed!
All in all, given the surrounding sand reception and gardens, being a lovely environment, when you get behind this facade there is a hotel struggling to offer even a good 4 star service, In fact it is the lack of SERVICE we have been accustomed to as 5 star travelers, personally, we should be ofered a refund, as it was definitely not worth it!"
