*** Elba San Jorge Hotel, Costa Caleta,
Fuerteventura
Check In: Following a horrendous and chaotic
6.30pm arrival at Fuerteventura Airport, caused
by the failed technical complexities of the new
ESS system, my wife and I eventually reached
the Elba San Jorge Hotel at 10pm, only to be
informed that the Hotel restaurant had closed at
9.30pm. We were given a ‘picnic-bag’, the
contents thereof really did leave a lot to be
desired. However, we were allocated our room
by efficient and courteous Reception Staff, and a
mention of Esmerelda’s professionalism should
not be overlooked.
Room: Room 2120 was a pre-booked sea-view
suite comprising of a furnished living room and a
separate bedroom with two single beds pulled
together. It was a tad dated, but comfortable
enough for a 3 Star accommodation. However,
we then discovered we were housed directly
above the entertainment stage in the Bar/Lounge
below, and with the loud bass of the music and
the noise of the partying guests, the room was
totally unsuitable for two senior holiday-makers,
one being a Senior Assessor/Reviewer with
TripAdvisor LLC. We were moved next morning to
a wonderful penthouse suite (Room 1329) on the
top floor of the hotel, which was, in fact, a pure
joy to inhabit for our eleven-night stay at the
Elba San Jorge Hotel.
Tea/Coffee Replenishment: Tea/Coffee
replenishment was absent at this venue, but the
suites are fully furnished with a kitchen, fridge,
and a two-ring hob.
Sleep Quality: Sleep quality is excellent
throughout the Elba San Jorge Hotel,
Fuerteventura, after the entertainment ends at
11pm on the lower floors, and the sound of the
waves lapping against the shore just outside the
sea-view suites helps to lull guests into at great
refreshing sleep, after each day of activities and
sun-bathing.
Room Cleaning: As always in my Senior Reviews,
the cleaning and house-keeping staff are the
stars of the show – endless cleaning and tidying
up takes place at the hotel, and every area is
spotlessly maintained and smelling fresh and
clean. Towels, sheets, and room-cleaning is
continued on a regular basis and one feels looked
after and cared for at this holiday venue
Restaurant: Having reviewed many hotels, in my
25-year capacity as a TripAdvisor venue assessor
and reviewer, I can state clearly that the Elba
San Jorge, although a 3 Star hotel, far outshines
many higher Star evaluated hotels I have
reviewed far and wide. Breakfast, and Dinner on
a Half Board basis, is a culinary delight at the
Elba San Jorge Hotel, Fuerteventura. Well done
the chefs, and restaurant management team, in
providing such a wonderful variety of meals, and
quality of preparation for your guests. A special
mention to just a few of the efficient and
professional restaurant staff: Mercedes, Marcella,
and Mikhail -your cheerful, polite, and industrious
services to guests, are a huge asset to Elba
Hotels, and so much appreciated by all the
guests I interviewed on the matter of restaurant
quality. Great job, guys, please keep up the
good work for Elba.
Bathroom: Bathrooms at the Elba San Jorge
Hotel are a tad dated and consist of a shower
over a bath, hand-basin, toilet, and bidet.
However, hot water was always available, and
adequate for the needs of guests. One negative
point for management to perhaps take note:
men need to have hand-basins (sinks) with
proper means of retaining hot water, especially when
shaving. Perhaps better plugs in the sinks, could
be fitted to ensure that the sinks (basins) hold
hot water while men are shaving?

were of the most courteous nature, and willing to
help guests with any little problems that
occurred. A special mention I will make of the
most professional manager, Yaritza, who sorted
out our room-noise problem so promptly and
efficiently, and turned our entire holiday from a
potentially noisy endurance in Room 2120, to a
startling contrast of all-day peace and quiet in
Room 1329. Well done, Yaritza! Because of your
professional intervention in our room-change, we
shall most definitely be returning again, God
willing, to holiday at your excellent venue.
Disabled Access: A mention of the excellence of
disabled access at the Elba San Jorge Hotel
might assist disabled and senior holiday-makers
to book this great venue. During our time there
over the eleven-night stay, we saw many
disabled guests who had discovered the good
access the San Jorge Hotel had, and there was
always a lift or a ramp available to accommodate
wheel-chair access to the various sections of the
hotel. Folk with food allergies seemed to find
plenty to eat also. Well done, Elba!
Overall TripAdvisor Star Assessment: The Elba
San Jorge Hotel, Costa Caleta, could very well
achieve a higher Star rating, were a few dated
areas, and equipment to be considered. Beds
might be updated with better mattresses; small
changes like the sink-plug situation addressed;
lick of paint here and there to tidy up overall
appearance; and a look at the now ageing lifts
would give guests more confidence.
Senior Assessor’s Recommendations: Keep right
on doing what you are doing there in Elba San
Jorge Hotel! Keep on providing good quality, and
variety of food. Ban footballs being kicked within
the hotel; and upgrade the discipline of the hotel
to prevent unruly behaviour from children and
adults. OH, and could you guys move the
security-boxes off from floor height and put them
higher for easier access by senior holiday-makers
and the disabled?
Apart from these petty suggestions, I find that
the Elba San Jorge Hotel, Fuerteventura, Canary
Islands is a gem of a holiday venue, and would
thoroughly recommend this venue to all holiday-
makers international as well as British. Well
done, Director and tremendous Staff!"
