Plages de sable et lacs salés
Cette ville côtière espagnole est connue pour ses belles plages et ses promenades en bord de mer, sa vie nocturne agréable et son riche patrimoine de production de sel.
Deux lacs salés aux couleurs vives (l'un vert, l'autre rose) dominent la région. L'exploitation du sel y est très ancienne et a atteint son apogée au XIXe siècle. De nos jours, le sel de Torrevieja est toujours exporté dans le monde entier, avec une production annuelle dépassant le million de tonnes. La région compte également une réserve naturelle, le Parque Natural de las Lagunas de la Mata y Torrevieja, où l'on peut apercevoir des flamants roses si l'on a de la chance.
La ville perpétue également sa tradition maritime avec un port de pêche et de commerce très actif et de nombreux embarcadères au Royal Sailing Club et à l'International Marina. Au bout de la promenade, vous pourrez admirer les bateaux qui partaient jadis pour Cuba chargés de sel. Au retour, ils apportaient les populaires chansons habaneras, qui font toujours partie de la culture locale, et un hommage annuel est rendu aux marins.
