"Honest review ..
Just returned from a 10 night stay at Caves.
Check in, arrived late due to a delay, we were 4th in line, about 3 other couples / groups behind. Took almost 40 mins to check those 3 in. During this time, no hello, refreshments etc. got bit about 12 times (i am prone) but mosquitos everywhere. Tip. If you’re prone, take wipes / spray / bands in hand luggage to use as you arrive. Wish I had.
Finally got checked in, there were 2 other staff members looking at the queue but that’s all they did. Starting checking others in, just as we were getting checked in.
Then just 1 bell boy, had to wait, which was fine, so we had a drink at the bar while we waited. He then took us and 2 other couples, had to wait while he showed others their room. Finally got to ours, was fine, clean, spacious etc.
Kettle is old and a bit grubby, fridge didn’t work but for us, we weren’t that bothered. Air con in my opinion and obviously in our room was not the best. Didn’t seem to get really cold. All this is just our room and others might be better. Shower wasn’t very powerful but we managed ok.
Bed was really comfy and pillows firm which was amazing. Slept good every night.
Balcony was ok, not a great view and chairs low and wall high, but again just our room, other rooms Might be ok, we was on the 3rd floor.
Overall, room was fine for what we needed but better shower, working fridge and maybe a wardrobe update (looking tired) and the rooms would be spot on.
Hotel is very pretty, during the day and at night with all the lights on.
We stayed at the swim up pool bar area during the day. Plenty of beds and pool guy did our towels everyday, dropped him a couple of tips during our stay. He was a lovely guy, pleasant and very attentive.
Barman was lovely, but the other one, collecting and bringing drinks had his days. 🤣
Considering it was a pool bar, no sticky floors or anything although lots of loose or missing tiles so I tried to not touch the floor and used the lilo to chill in pool.
Drinks were ok? But not always cold cold. Cocktails tasted different depending on what had been made in the jug previous. But it was ok.
Food, in my opinion, limited choice and probably the biggest thing that lets the hotel down. Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t go hungry, but most of it was tasteless and not much choice. Salad bar was disappointing, cakes the usual for Egypt, all taste the same .. as in, don’t have any taste. Others we met here loved the food, so each to their own. We’ve stayed at other hotels in Hurghada (about 6 others) and the food for us was the bottom of the list here.
Bettys bar the same, not the best food. Not much taste and roasting if you couldn’t get a shaded table, food was quick though. We only ate here twice, didn’t enjoy it, again others we met, loved the food at Bettys.
We didn’t bother with the restaurants as it was mixed reviews from others, plus we couldn’t even get on the QR code to download and book, so didn’t bother.
Evening entertainment was ok, background noise for us, don’t think we’ve ever found anywhere that the entertainment was amazing, but not really interested, was more about the company etc. We often sat at the bar near the main pool in the evenings, bar staff great here and the drinks were much better. Beer was cold.
So in a nutshell, we had a nice stay, staff were all lovely. Needs some improvements, we would not return but met lots of people that have been multiple times or said they would come back, but most have only ever stayed here or it was their first time in Egypt so nothing to compare. There are definitely hotels with nicer food & better rooms.
Anyone booked, I’m sure you will have a great time, everyone has different expectations and standards (not meaning to be rude) so some will love it and some won’t but that’s like any hotel.
Also to add, we don’t actually like to go back to the same hotel as we like to try different ones. But would probs not recommend this one to others as there are better ones in our opinion."
