A Gem in the Heart of Berlin
We absolutely loved our stay at the Monbijou Hotel and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting Berlin.
From the moment we arrived, the staff set the tone for what proved to be a wonderful experience. Friendly, helpful and genuinely accommodating, they went above and beyond on more than one occasion. When flight disruption forced us to extend our stay unexpectedly, we found ourselves in a bit of a predicament — we'd purchased some local cheese the day before our original checkout and needed somewhere to keep it fresh. Without any fuss, the team were happy to store it in their fridge for us. It's a small thing, but it's exactly the kind of thoughtful, personal service that makes a hotel truly stand out.
The hotel itself is wonderfully inviting. The lobby, with its cosy fireplace, soft furnishings, bar and library, has a warm and relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and stay a while — which, as it turned out, we did! The rooms are very clean and the beds are wonderfully comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. One small oversight — a kettle was not provided in the room as standard, and we had to request one. At this price point, that really should be a given.
The rooftop terrace is an absolute highlight. We visited at sunset and were treated to breathtaking views over the Berlin skyline — a truly memorable experience that we'll be talking about for a long time.
But perhaps the greatest asset of the Monbijou is its location. For first-time visitors to Berlin, it's hard to imagine a better base. The majority of the city's key sights are within comfortable walking distance, and the riverside walk is just moments away. Berlin's public transport network is excellent, and with numerous stations and tram stops nearby, getting further afield couldn't be easier.
One minor note: we found the breakfast pricing a little steep and opted out. This was no hardship at all, however, as the café right next door serves excellent food and is clearly a firm local favourite — it was busy every morning, and for very good reason! In fact, the two of us enjoyed a full breakfast there for the same price we would have paid for just one at the hotel. Exceptional value and well worth the short wait.
All in all, a fantastic stay. The Monbijou Hotel strikes a perfect balance of charm, comfort, location and personal service. We'll definitely be back."
