"Since 2014 I have stayed at the St Giles at least 25 times - amazing location and always been fantastic value for money. I have never had any issue with the staff.
I just paid for three nights at £81 per night in an 'urban' (which means low price) room. The same room type when I stayed in October 2025 was £134 a night. But I guess March is low season.
I have also used the higher price rooms in the past, before these rooms, now called 'urban' (have also been called 'refurbished') were a class of room.
There were some differences this time - new owners, who bought the hotel in January 2026. Leaving your case in the left luggage room is now £10 per item (before it was free, but you could leave a tip - and I always did - for the porter) and the kettle/teabags/coffee sachets/sugar/milk have been removed from this class of room. Instead of paying £81 a night I would rather have paid £91 and had a kettle, because I like tea in the morning while I am getting ready. A further irony is that I bring my own decaf teabags and buy a small bottle of milk from either Tesco or Sainsburys nearby, so all I'm really using is the kettle.
So now I had to get dressed, walk to Pret to buy tea - and while I was there I bought porridge and a croissant that I took back to my room to have while I was getting ready for the day. So the St Giles actually sent me somewhere else to buy breakfast, whereas in the past, many times, I have had tea in my room, got ready, and gone downstairs for breakfast in the hotel.
If you are going to cut something from this class of room, why not take away the TV?
I have a friend who always stays at the St Giles when in London (after I recommended it) and when I told her about the removal of the kettle she was not happy either.
I'll be back in London in the spring, when it's a busier season, if the price is back to seasonal highs of £130-£140 a night (which I have paid before) and still no kettle, I will deffo be checking out the other hotels in the area, Premier Inn etc.
As always, I found the staff to be lovely and helpful."
