"I've just returned from a week all inclusive at the Bahia Principe Luxury, after it opened from the year long refurbishment. The resort was not full by any means, and as a consequence, staffing was fabulous and everything was available without any queue at all, I never had to wait for a drink for example. We enjoyed a junior suite, which really was a luxury standard as there was only 1 room, but it was spacious enough, had adequate hanging space for clothes and some nice touches like a great safe which was big enough for anything we wanted to put in (ie ipad Pro) and a Nespresso coffee machine, for which the 4 provided pods were replaced daily along with a couple of bottles of water (glass and crown topped so room only!). The minibar wasn't bad, and contained 2 beers a couple of juices and a couple of bottles of coke and wasn't refilled unless you went for the club status which I thought was a bit mean but seeing as our room was within about 40 steps from the pool bar I'm also being a bit picky as this is now standard practise not to refill.
Another great touch is the TV which includes a great range of UK channels, and can also be used to control all the room amenities (temperature etc).
Check-in was easy, with English speaking staff, and we were shown to our room and our luggage was taken for us - thin it's time to kick back and enjoy.
This resort isn't huge. It's compact, and also in an area that isn't so easy to explore without a hike so don't expect a hotel hop like further down in Costa Adeje - best to accept what you have within the resort and just relax. Don't exert yourself or get too excited, sunbathe on one of the many beds or catch the rays from your own balcony.
I think there is a gym and I know there is a spa but I just didnt make my way there on this stay.
The garden areas are newly planted, with the exception of the many palm trees and everywhere is very green. So much so that it can feel as though you are making your way through the jungle whilst navigating the main bar seating as there are so many! Here the bar staffing is excellent and waiters will bring your drinks right to your table if you like although they dont mind if you order at the bar but I can imagine it may get busy when full. Entertainment each night tended to be a singer using backing tracks, but sometimes we got a duo. Not particularly exciting but it was OK and some nights were better than others although it can get a little noisy inside if the weather is cool and they move the singers indoors. Special thanks got to Alejandro for excellent bar work.
If you get this far you will probably have read the other reviews, because I did. Some mention the quality of food but I found everything to be excellent. The main buffet restaurant (Badana) serves all three meals and there was enough choice to keep anyone trying something new each meal. For lunch and dinner, two soups always provided. Starters were plentiful, as were tapas bites, amuse bouches and small bowls of prepared chopped salads. Each meal was a joy to see the different food laid out like a picture (see photos) and if you are lucky or hungry enough to be first in the buffet you will see what I mean. There is always a chef preparing freshly made stir fry - your choice of ingredients, a good handful of vegetarian options, cast iron casseroles with various meat dishes in smaller quantities and then the live grill where there are 2 mats to choose from (typically steak/pork/chicken) and two fish to choose - all cooked to order as you like it. On top of this is an extensive salad bar, a cooked meat section and superb choice of sliced/cubed cheeses. Oh did i mention always 2 rice/paella dishes to select from.
Occasionally there will be a roast meat carvery hidden right at the far end so look out for this! [also look out for the Gluten Free section for those who need this].
Fish lovers (like myself) are in for a treat - I stayed a week and (rather greedily) I ate the following fish species: Perch, Salmon (both smoked and grilled) , Tuna (smoked, tinned and freshly grilled), Bluefish, Sardine, Moon Fish, Sea Bream, Pollock, Cod (Bacalao), Mackerel, Hake, Cuttlefish, Squid, Octopus, Corvina 9sea Trout) & Lubina (Sea Bass) - that's staggering 16 different species and I also spotted pickled Herring on the salad bar so for those who can't spot variety and have a bash at the food options here think again please. Desserts are plentiful but don't have the same kind of range as the savoury and fresh fruit is plentiful as are the many variations of bread on offer each meal. You can eat outside if the weather is good as there are at least 40 tables on the terrace.
There are two other a la carte restaurants and I think you get 1 booking for a 7 day stay. We booked Volcan and enjoyed a beautiful steak cooked to my liking and my wife had pan fried salmon. I would really recommend especially as the view from Volcan is right over the ocean.
Also available is Gofio (which was not open in the evenings yet) but doubles as a fabulous snack bar opening a little earlier than the main buffet at 11:00. You can choose a large range of menu items which are cooked to order, including things such as pizza, burger, chicken pieces, calamari and more but beware because it looks as though its closed as there are no amounts of food laid out - you order from a menu and it's brough to your table so find one of the staff and just sit down if there aren't any other diners there yet. Big portions! It's a superb place for eating outside with the ocean view readily available. Another special mention to Isora in the restaurant(s) for remembering our drinks preference and being so attentive all the time.
The all inclusive drinks package was OK - the house wines were very nice, a dry Verdejo and rounded Chardonnay were our favourites, along with both white and rose Cava but I was a bit disappointed that some standards weren't included in the all inclusive (eg Liquor 43) but have a look at the menu to see what is and what isnt included - tip - there is a QR code at each bar and restaurant that gives all the information you will need for that area.
Finally, I'd just like to mention that everyone's enjoyment was marred a little by the behaviour of just one or two couples who decided to be drunken, loud and brash during the day and evening. One fell into the pool because he was so drunk and this type of behaviour is not really for this kind of place. If you want to be loud and obviously drunk there are a vast number of places further down the coast that are just perfect and encourage drinking to excess. Try Veronica's at Playa de las Americas who will welcome you. I would urge the management of Bahia Principe to have a robust policy to deal with anti-social activity like this.
My summary:
Remote resort made for relaxation however all facilities are here to enjoy.
Great choice and quality/quantity of food.
Superb staff, and cleanliness in all areas is second to none."
