"Just come back from 10 days at this hotel. Positives and negatives:-
Positives:-
Generally friendly staff - Christian in the animation team in particular was great and worked really hard to engage guests of all ages. There was a mini club which seemed well attended. Christian organised activities e.g. air gun shooting, darts, pool, halloween dress up even putting up decorations himself etc etc. Also, the reception team were very alert and helpful. They can speak several languages which was impressive.
Entertainment - the visiting evening entertainment was great and really the best part of our stay, acrobats, singers etc. Really good.
Very clean hotel - lots of cleaning staff and the whole hotel was very well maintained. The room cleaning staff were working very hard all the time.
Showers - Powerful, very hot showers.
Good location - walking distance to beach and also bus stops/shops etc. The beach at Sa Coma is beautiful!
Beds - the beds are large and comfortable.
Good range of facilities (but see below).
Negatives:-
Pool - The outdoor pool is not heated and too cold for us and most other guests to swim in, only for a quick dip. We complained but they just said they couldn't change the temperature. The indoor pool is heated but very small and felt claustrophobic, no ventilation. There was a life guard who seemed to be a machismo, lazy, surly, useless waste of space, didn't even look up from his phone when kids were screaming, he was more interested in chatting up the barmaid than anything else.
Air con - The room air con is restricted to a small range of temperature (to save energy) but means the room is too warm at times even in October.
Food - Food quality is very same-y every day and of variable poor cheap high volume quality always seemingly a little overcooked. Well presented but labelling poor. Very salty. My wife and one of my kids were a bit poorly for a couple of days, it must have been the hotel food as we were all inclusive and didn't eat anywhere else. Only mildly ill, but upset stomach and toilet trouble etc.
Sleep quality bad - The rooms are very noisy at night particularly when other guests make noise (we had a couple in next room to us having very loud sex and partying all night! We could hear everything and didn't get any sleep that night, as could our kids which was very embarrassing!). The doors slam shut and woke us up a few times. We moved rooms as the room at the front of the hotel we stayed in overlooks a late night music bar. The rooms on the street side are noisy. We moved to the pool side which was better. We had a strange event where some people in the room above had dropped some of their belongings onto our balcony and the hotel staff had to enter our room at 8am to come through to our balcony waking us up on our first morning to retrieve these things. The staff were very sorry and not really the hotel's fault - but it was just a strange event which spoiled our first morning at the hotel.
Bali beds/loungers - It seems odd that the Bali beds are available but even for all inclusive guests are an additional cost option, this means they aren't used and chained off, it would be better to offer them for free to all inclusive guests or simply remove them - as no one used them anyway.
Drinks - The all inclusive drinks were of substandard quality - "local" gin undrinkable! Coffee was all out of machine dispensers and awful quality.
Grounds - The grounds feel a little "cramped" overlooked by the main 8 storey hotel block.
Ambiance - Some of the other guests didn't seem very friendly to us, we felt maybe because we are English and they are predominantly German/French etc. We hadn't realised this before we booked, oh well...
Facilities - The squash courts out of order due to damage from leaking roof. They rent bikes but none were available so I rented one from a place I walked to down the street.
Rooms - rooms OK ish but the bathrooms are in need of refurbishment. There wasn't much room to store clothes.
Overall - some good but lot of bad during our experience. Just doesn't feel like a 4 star hotel should for the cost we paid, maybe more like an upper 3 star hotel.
Pick-Up - We had a problem with being picked up by the coach transfer at the end of the holiday, there was some confusion and the hotel had to call us a taxi, this probably wasn't down to the hotel but it was a bad experience, more resolved by the hotel than the tour operator, oh well.
This isn't a bad hotel but just lacking in soul with us feeling like we were in a big holiday factory with the owners having an eye on the running costs. It didn't feel special enough to merit 4 star rating for the price we had paid. We seemed to have a few problems at the hotel and maybe we were just unlucky. The staff helped but overall it was...not very good, sorry!"
