Medplaya Hotel Alba Beach

"Checking in smooth and friendly, we had a superior room on the 4th floor which ment we had a fridge, tea coffee making facilities and overlooked the pool. When we first walked in the room it smelt of drains but soon went off the room was very clean good wardrobe space but not many hangers, bed was comfortable. Breakfast is very standard and same thing everyday but we never starved. Pool area Iv had a lot better even at a 2 star hotel, there was broken and dirty beds, part of the grass area seemed water logged not sure why, the pool doesn’t open till 11am and closes at 6pm never experienced that before. Location is great bars and restaurants near by and the beach across the road where we spent most of our time, bus stop on the main road, buy yourself a green card from the tabac shop and put euros on it and you get a discount when using the bus and you don’t need one for each person. The friendliest staff were the cleaners and they were brilliant the bar staff seamed miserable and the restaurant staff were not to bad. The hotel inside was good decor and very clean but the outside especially the pool area in need of a face lift, for the price it was ok, would I stay there again don’t think I would but we had a great holiday"

"The first thing I have to say as many reviewers already have, the staff in this Hotel are excellent. Every member of staff I have interacted with during my stay has been polite, helpful and friendly. The food both at breakfast and dinner has been fine. The room also was fine, comfortable bed, lovely powerful shower, regular housekeeping. The Hotel location for me was great, half hour stroll to the Marina, ten minutes to the Paloma Park which was lovely and about one minute to the beach. To sum up, I have had a lovely relaxing holiday and have no complaints at all. This is not a luxury Hotel, it does what it says on the tin, and it does it very well, if that is what you are looking for I have no hesitation in recommending it."

"Great location, lovely staff, decent rooms, terrible sun loungers! Location: Stayed here last week and the location is great. Just across the street from the beach, with some fantastic restaurants to enjoy in the evening (BBQ fresh fish was amazing!) if you just turn left on the main road and walk 5 minutes along the beach promenade. Keep walking about another 20 minutes in the same direction and you reach Benalmadena Marina area. Rooms: clean and with good wardrobe space. Had a fridge and hairdryer, plus a safe if you want to pay for that option. No coffee making but for €10 you can ask at Reception and they’ll have a tray brought to your room with kettle, cups, tea and coffee etc - which they refill for you daily for the duration of your holiday. Bathroom was small in size but the shower was great. General: The view from the hotel isn’t brilliant (buildings, car park etc) but given its location and price we weren’t that bothered. The restaurant is fine if you want a breakfast and the bar area has lovely seating outside if you fancy a drink before going out in the evening. It’s definitely a hotel popular with the older generation, which I can understand given the area is flat and convenient for the beach - plus there’s a bus stop right opposite too. Staff: all very friendly and helpful. Pool: small but in this location that’s not really surprising. The pool itself is fenced off until 11am but you can still use the loungers if you want to. And there is my biggest criticism. The sun loungers are absolutely terrible. They don’t adjust at all but worse than that is how uncomfortable they are. Even the newer ones dig into your back and you saw people using 2 on top of each other, just to try and get comfortable. If you’re someone like me who enjoys a bit of downtime on holiday to read and you want a comfortable lounger, go to the beach opposite. You can get 2 comfy loungers with cushions and an umbrella for €14. The poor sun loungers would be the biggest reason I wouldn’t come back to this hotel. For the money, everything else was absolutely fine and the location is great."
