"RELAXING HOTEL IN A QUIET AREA
We stayed in Hotel Poseidon in La Manga (Mar Menor) near Murcia and Cartagena and Alcazares! for 3 days in October.
Check in went smoothly and very quick indeed our room was ready all this was before 12 p.m.
This was for our 10th anniversary and we was looking forward to it, However our room was filthy, sand everywhere and the glasss doors to the balcony was very moldy and unclean in the centre part where they Join, The shower and Bidet had a plug in it which was jammed and un able to open to let the water out unless you had a pair of scissors or a screw driver. The maid came and cleaned the room again but explained there was nothing she could do about the outside door dirt and the shower and bidet. We got a bottle of Cava from the Director as a way of an apology unexpected and appreciated plus we got 2 glasses of cava as a welcome gift which everybody got, but we were suppose to get 1 bottle of water per day which we only got twice and not three times plus the coffee and tea was not replaced and NO milk so we had to go out and buy some milk and tea and coffee, No cola cao (Hot chocolate) or Decafinated coffee just 2 packets of a disgusting strong Cafe Jurado which has Torrefacto in it giving it a burnt bitter nasty taste in the mouth not Arabica which it should be in a 4 star Spa hotel also the Balcony in the rooms had a big step so if not careful you could yourself a nasty injury and trip up. Apart from one day where Spanish moaned and wanted a small bottle of Freixenet Cava which they got but between 2 of them. There was not enough hangers in the room closet as well on;y 3 each person which was not enough. The views was spectacular. We tried the Spa which we paid €10 each for and it was relaxing and the outside pool was warm but we couldn't use the Jacuzzi's outside of the pool as spanish were hogging them for more than the 15 minutes time allowed but the guard did nothing about this very lazy on his job!
The meals were however horrendous the first day we had Lunch and they had Turkey breasts which was lovely, apart from that the rest of the Lunches and Evening Meals was terrible the same practically every day, Boney fish and chicken legs and Pizza and chicken nuggets and chips bearing in mind this was supposed to be a adults hotel there was children there, they don't realise adults need something more substantial like chicken or turkey breast and potatoes not just chips, we had mash potato one day but it was like prison slop it was packet powdered mash made up!
The Salad was not good a bit of lettuce, beetroot, carrot, olives and the usual other stuff, The Deserts was always the same Fruit that was not fresh, panna cotta which was more like a mousse, chocolate or vanilla custard and Pan de Calatrava a bread style pudding that wasn't made the proper way so it was stodgy and no sweetness to it.
The breakfasts was abysmal bread for toast, strong coffee and Juice not freshly squeezed, also pastries and fresh fruit and cooked saussages and eggs and tomatoes and baked beens, not good for people like me who is Diabetic!
The Eetertainment in the evenings was very bad asking people where people where they came from then just dancing to music or singing why ask where people where they come from if just dancing there is no need for it. They suppose to have Musical Bingo one night which did not happen as the Spanish was asked yes or no they moaned so we had to endure old people line dancing so we retired to our room or went over the road to the only pub open.
The bar staff were lovely especially Anna-Rosa and the drinks were reasonable. The receptionist Fanny was very polite and very helpful the rest of the staff were a bit rude apart from the restaurant waitresses who was polite and helpful.
We had good views of the sea from our room but 1st night the lights on the balcony at night did not work, so when we mentioned it from day 2 they worked until 11.00 pm when they were shut off. There was no English Tv only news which I realise we are in Spain but its not good having only 1 English channel out of about 70 especially when you have people from the UK who come on holiday here to this hotel.
We Would we come here again probably if the Food was alot better, The entertainment was better and the cleaning up to scratch! Price wise it was ok but a little expenisve if you consider the bad entertainment, food, somerude staff and the cleaning!
I would only recommend this hotel in the summer months as hardly no shops was open and those that were only open until 2 pm and the supermarkets closed at 2pm and then opened until 9 pm and only a few bars unless you were prepared to walk 2.1 km each way or bus it or taxi it!
October is very quiet and not recommended for holidays especially families!
Also people were smoking outside the hotel doors and just putting their cigarettes out on the street or hotel steps discusting behaivour!
I rate this hotel 7/10 in total!
