"Stayed 4 nights at the Best Western Hotel President in Rome.
Booked 2 rooms on the same floor for six guest (3 adults/3 children).
Was placed on the 1st floor above the lobby.
The hotel itself was disappointing and felt like I was still in the 90's.
The room was the consensus worst room of our 3-week european vacation at similar price points. (6 different hotel stays)
In both rooms, the shower had black mold as well as the trim around the bathroom door was water damaged most likely from not having adequate venting.
Some charging outlets worked, some did not.
The doors would not close without force.
As the other rooms most likely had the same issue you could hear doors slamming at all hours of the day.
The lobby can be loud and overrun with tour groups.
Sleep was affected each morning due to the breakfast restaurant directly under our rooms. You could hear plates clanging and chairs being pushed in as early as 6 am daily.
I attempted to change rooms however I was told that due to occupancy levels it was unlikely we could find two rooms on the same floor beside each other. Which was fair.
We reluctantly stayed in the original rooms and upon checkout it was also established that they were starting renovations (which are needed) in the lobby which now included power drills and ladders to our 6 am wake-up routine.
We arrived in Rome via train at Termini Station and while half of the group took a taxi to the hotel I walked which took approximately 15 minutes.
In the 15 minute walk I saw four incidents - 2 police takedowns, 1 assault and 1 robbery.
The hotel is meters from Manzoni Train station which is beneficial.
Sadly, there is not many options for traditional Italian restaurants or cafes within close proximity to the hotel, it is mostly foreign restaurants (chinese, peruvian, arabic, african, japanese).
We were able to find a walkable restaurant called "Feelsgood" which didn't sound very italian or look very inviting from the outside but it was good.
The hotel is approximately 15 minute walk from the Colosseum, but not close to the other tourist attractions.
For the money you may save staying at this hotel you're better off staying more central when you account for taxi cost.
The most encouraging part of the hotel was the staff. The front desk were very friendly, helpful and provided excellent suggestions for excursions."
