Axel Hotel Berlin Adults Only

"This hotel was a big disappointment. During my stay the spa was closed for refurbishment, which I was informed about before I arrived (but after I had booked). The standard rooms face the back and face an apartment block that is so close you can probably see what people in the facing windows are having for breakfast. If you want any privacy you have to keep the curtains permanently closed. I paid to upgrade to a front facing room, which was much better. The room had a jacuzzi bath which was a nice surprise and some compensation for the loss of the spa but I couldn't get it to work to I went down to ask how to turn it on. I was told that all the jacuzzis in all the rooms had been disconnected, which is why they didn't advertise them anywhere. But it still functions as a basic bath. This is fine but seeing the jet holes was a daily reminder that the Axel Hotel experience of 2026 is a pale shadow of what it once was. The hotel has no bar or lounge, or even its own restaurant. Breakfast is provided by the restaurant next door and its probably the worst breakfast I've had in any hotel, certainly above two stars. This would all have been okay were it not for the fact this is claimed to be a four-star hotel, and I paid a four star price. My stay cost more than that of colleagues staying at the Riu Plaza and secure, just metres away, which were not only significantly nicer, and newer, but also a lot cheaper. There is no way the Axel Berlin can justify the price or its 4 stars with no facilities and such lousy food. I cant help the fact they were renovation their rooftop spa, but they should not have then charged a full rate which I dont think would be justified even if the spa was open."

"My partner and I stayed at the Axel, Berlin last week for 6 nights. It's well located in the gay area and walkable to a lot. But the hotel is very dated -- like a relic from the 90s, with black walls and ceilings and you can see from the main bed area into the bathroom with a huge glass window. I'm guessing this was trendy when it was first built but it looks horribly dated now. Also, somehow the wood floor was slippery. The biggest problem is that I think the room had mold in it. I'm allergic to mold and every time I want back into the room I got congested and had some asthmatic symptoms. So, we slept with the windows opened, which was noisy. The front desk staff was lovely."

"We had an excellent experience at the accommodation; we find it hard to find any fault with our stay. The staff, both at reception and in room service, were always very attentive to our needs and addressed any questions we might have had; arriving at the room to an incredible welcome surprise made us feel at home from minute one; the attention from both Zaire and Nereida was spectacular, looking after us at all times and helping us plan our weekend in Berlin. If I have to find a fault, the breakfast was a bit lacking, but since it is subcontracted, the hotel cannot be blamed for the problem."
