Film buff or not, you can\u2019t fail to be impressed by the gravitas of Lyon\u2019s film heritage. Cinematic history was made in the grand former villa of Antoine\u00a0Lumiere, now a museum on the appropriately named rue du Premier-Film in the Lyon neighbourhood of\u00a0Monplaisir.<\/p>\n

Towards the end of the 19th century, Antoine\u2019s sons\u00a0Auguste\u00a0and Louis \u2013\u202fthe\u00a0Lumi\u00e8re\u00a0brothers \u2013 used the house to shoot movies. The brothers were manufacturers of photographic equipment by trade, and their museum is both a biographical journey and important repository for antique photography\u00a0artefacts.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Institut\u00a0Lumiere<\/a>\u00a0also includes a cinema and film archive, and there\u2019s an annual\u00a0Lumiere\u00a0Festival of film each October.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
