On the western shore of Ibiza, just outside San Antonio, which was then little more than a village, a small crowd at the newly opened\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cafedelmaribiza.es\/\">Caf\u00e9\u00a0del Mar<\/a>\u00a0was watching the sunset while ambient music played by\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the rocky shore.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Forty wild\u00a0Ibizan\u00a0seasons later (and one, 2020, a bit less so), the same scene is still unfolding.\u00a0Caf\u00e9\u00a0del Mar is still playing\u00a0chillout\u00a0tunes against a golden backdrop. It still feels like an oasis of tranquillity in a desert of madness.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When the sun finally vanishes, a polite applause ripples up the beach. Today the appreciation for the sun\u2019s good work isn\u2019t quite what it used to be \u2013 perhaps because phones and\u00a0selfies\u00a0make clapping one-handed too difficult \u2013 but for many,\u00a0sundowners\u00a0at\u00a0Caf\u00e9\u00a0del Mar remain a fundamental part of a trip to Ibiza.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ibiza\u2019s iconic DJ bar and dusk hangout recently celebrated four decades in business.
