{"id":2250,"date":"2026-08-06T15:20:45","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T15:20:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ezjcloud.com\/traveller\/?p=2250"},"modified":"2026-08-06T15:21:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T15:21:15","slug":"volcano-trip-fagradalsfjall-iceland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.easyjet.com\/en\/traveller\/iceland\/spain\/canary-islands\/lanzarote\/volcano-trip-fagradalsfjall-iceland","title":{"rendered":"A lava-ly time &#8211; getting under the crust of Iceland&#8217;s hottest new tourist attraction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In retrospect, it was a poor decision to visit the Fagradalsfjall volcano at night.<\/p>\n<p>The 3km hike up an adjacent mountain had been uneventful, if physically laborious.\u00a0Fagradalsfjall\u00a0is located close to\u00a0Grindavik, on the\u00a0Reykjanes\u00a0Peninsula, about an hour\u2019s drive from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/traveller.ezjcloud.com\/prod\/iceland\/reykjavik\">Reykjavik<\/a>. The landscape here is eerie and beautiful and sparsely populated; wafts of sulphur leak from volcanic hot springs. Arriving for the hike, I was glad of the small mobile van in the car park, selling hot drinks and snacks.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>That&#8217;s south\u00a0<span class=\"\">Iceland ticked \u2013 so it&#8217;s time to set your eyes on the north. And\u00a0there&#8217;s no better way experience it than by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/traveller.ezjcloud.com\/prod\/driving-the-arctic-coast-way\">driving the Arctic Coast Way<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span class=\"\">Hot pools, cool food, explosive landscapes&#8230; whatever your preference,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/traveller.ezjcloud.com\/prod\/iceland\/iceland-is-the-mini-break-you-need-right-now\">Iceland needs to be your next mini-break<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Iceland&#8217;s Fagradalsfjall volcano started erupting this spring \u2013 and it hasn&#8217;t stopped since.
