The clue is in the name at the Four Views Monumental. This high-rise hotel has a prime setting just a hop from Funchal Lido – an area with two saltwater pools and direct sea access – so sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean are par-for-the-course. This resort is designed to make the most of the vistas, too. For starters, every single room looks out across the water or over to the mountains in the distance.
You’ll get plenty of R&R by the hotel pool. It’s set in a smart wooden terrace, neighboured by a smaller number for children and a bar serving up snacks and cold drinks. There’s one more inside the Four Senses Spa. This one’s heated, and sits alongside a Vichy shower, Roman bath and a string of treatment cabins where you can indulge in the likes of thalasso mud body wraps.
Meals are catered for in the Atlantic Restaurant, with buffet spreads laid on in the mornings, an a la carte service for lunch and a combination of both in the evenings. The cuisine is largely international, and regular local offerings mean you’ll be able to sample some specialities from the region. After-dinner cocktails can be enjoyed in the Awards bar, which regularly hosts entertainment until late.
