Varna holidays

A beachside Black Sea beauty

Resting cheerfully between Burgas and Varna, the little town of Obzor is a Black Sea beauty spot with a rather spectacular beach. A holiday to Ozbor is a laid-back choice that's a particular hit for families with children.

The star of the show is the eight kilometres of fine golden sand, the longest beach on the Black Sea coast. Backed by a promenade of cafés and bars and complete with the stunning Stara Planina Mountains as a backdrop, the strand features shallow, clear water where little ones can splash safely. Filled with family-run restaurants with outside terraces, the main square's the place to go for dinner, lingering into the night over a fine local wine. Despite its charm, Obzor manages to maintain a relaxed vibe and even during the height of summer you'll have plenty of space to yourself.

Best things to do in Obzor

Tuck into lukanka salami, cucumber soup, succulent grilled meats and local Byala wine at the al fresco restaurant terraces in the town square.
After dinner, the restaurants in the town square transform into tavernas. If you feel like upping the tempo, there a nightclub on the main road.
Bag a momento from the stalls selling pretty beach-style jewellery, animal puppets and ornaments on the main street that leads to the beach.
