Library in the sky

Welcome to our summer children's book club.

We’ve teamed up with the best-selling childrens' book author Dame Jaqueline Wilson and Puffin Classic’s to give our younger passengers a chance to sample some well-known books over the summer.

in partnership with Puffin, Penguin UK

We all know that travelling with children can be stressful as you try to keep them entertained during the journey. So we asked Dame Jacqueline Wilson to help us come up with a reading list that kids could enjoy on our flights.  Dame Jaqueline selected her top ten children’s reads for the summer including five great Puffin Classics. Jacqueline said: ‘I had great fun choosing all the books. What I wanted to do was choose books that children would actually enjoy. Because the very word ‘classic’ generally makes most children roll their eyes and go, ‘Boring!’, so I wanted to have books the children might not have read but are familiar with the story, like Alice in Wonderland or Wizard of Oz, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, because they’ve probably seen a video of it. And then I wanted books that appealed to both boys and girls, and I think nearly all of the choices will fit whatever sex you are. As well as really well-known classics, I wanted some modern classics too, like Fin Family Moomintroll and particularly Journey to the River Sea, which so many people say is their favorite book of recent times’.

Over the summer you’ll also be able to enjoy our on board Library in the Sky. On selected flights we have put a Puffin Classic in the middle seatback pocket of every row for your children to enjoy while flying with us.

Before we get onto Dame Jacqueline’s selection we’ve got an exclusive free sampler of the first three chapters of her new best-selling book ‘Wave me Goodbye’ which you can download and take with you on your flight.

,book cover, wave me goodbye, by Jacqueline Wilson.

September, 1939. As the Second World War begins, ten-year-old Shirley is sent away on a train with her schoolmates. She doesn’t know where she’s going, or what’s going to happen to her when she gets there. All she has been told is that she’s going on ‘a little holiday’. Shirley is billeted in the country, with two boys from East End London, Kevin and Archie – and their experiences living in the strange, half-empty Red House, with the mysterious and reclusive Mrs Waverley, will change their lives for ever.
