"As with all my reviews, this is an objective evaluation intended to provide useful information. This was my second holiday as a solo traveller following the passing of my wife. I stayed at the AX Odycy Hotel in Qwara during the last week of February. At check-in, Andela at reception courteously offered a complimentary room upgrade. The upgraded accommodation, room 718, provided a comfortable bed and a pleasant atmosphere, though it featured a land view. It is important to note that storage space was limited, consisting of one small drawer, two open shelves, and an open hanging rack. This limitation could be problematic for couples or families who require additional storage capacity.
The hotel was lovely and kept incredibly clean. The housekeeping staff were courteous and efficient.
The hotel offers several bars and restaurants. While the ODYCY lido and Cheeky Monkey waters are closed for renovations, the Deck & Keel buffet on levels 0 and -1 serves a wide variety of consistently hot and restocked food.
Across from the main building, you have the Cheeky Monkey gastropub, thank you Suman and Sabita, for looking after me so well, and Trattoria Riccardo offers traditional Italian cuisine.
The Sidestreet Bar provides evening entertainment and a good selection of premium spirits, and beer options are Skol and Carlsberg. All of the staff work extremely hard, my thanks to Sajan, Valentina, Visnal, Pabita and Anjith for all their hard work during my stay. I met some lovely people during my stay, making for a nicer experience than my first solo holiday
Although the hotel had its strengths, some concerns were not properly addressed for all paying guests. During my visit, a conference of 400 Evangelical Christian ministers generated considerable noise, making it hard to have conversations or enjoy entertainment. The buffet restaurant queues were not well organised; this could have been resolved by allocating the Keel restaurant—located on the same floor as their display stands—to the delegates. I recognise that these delegates are paying guests and have apparently stayed at the hotel for 14 years. However, when you select a table, the delegates sometimes move you while you're getting your food, which is not appreciated. They should ask first. While the hotel sometimes reserved large areas for their group, they preferred gathering in places like the 24-hour coffee shop or the Sidestreet Bar, resulting in a lack of spaces for other paying guests.
I would recommend this hotel to family and friends and return myself, but advise against visiting in the last week of February."
