Edinburgh Restaurants

Olly Bongo's
Comfy Anatolian cafe-bistro with a pleasant zing to it, from the low-key Turkish decor to the friendly staff. Serves an excellent selection of mezze, kebab, kofta and moussaka, not to mention a choice of all-day breakfasts from around the world.

Address: 4 Teviot Place | Telephone: 0131 225 2849 |

Field
A low-key revamp for the former Home Bistro sees chef Gordon Craig bringing the expertise he learned at Michelin-starred establishments to this new enterprise. The results are both exciting to the taste buds and modest on the pocket as he does the simple things well.

Address: 41 West Nicolson Street, Southside | Telephone: 0131 667 7010 |

The Gardener's Cottage
This one-time gardener's cottage makes a quirky destination. The set menu (with options available for veggies and those with allergies) is impeccably local and seasonal, although the communal seating will not be to everyone's taste. The five-course lunch or dinner is always delicious.

Address: 1 Royal Terrace Gardens | Telephone: 0131 558 1221 |

The Pompadour by Galvin
For their first venture outside London the esteemed Galvin Brothers have taken on the fading dining room of the Caledonian Hotel and lifted it up into fine-dining heaven. Spacious, if a little stuffy, here the Galvin's elaborate French-inspired dishes are created with seasonal Scottish ingredients.

Address: The Caledonian, Princes Street | Telephone: 0131 222 8975 |
