Olbia Sightseeing

April 2013
Spring is the time to hit the beach before the crowds descend. A 10-minute ride north of town brings you to Pittulongu. The favourite spiaggia of the Olbiesi, this is a frost-white crescent of sand, lapped by topaz water, with views across to the humpback island of Tavolara.

June 2012
This month Olbia celebrates its patron saint San Simplicio. On 14 June, watch the big parade led by the saint statue and join the locals in the afternoon's big feast.

April 2013
Museo Archeologico (Via Isola Peddone) Down by the waterfront, this architecturally striking museum presents an archaeological romp through Olbia's history, from Neolithic to recent times. The highlight is the relic of a Roman ship, discovered in the old port, which was destroyed by the Vandals 1600 years ago. The museum is free to visit.

The surrounding areas of Olbia include Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo and the Costa Smeralda, popular destinations for international jetsetters and yacht owners. Head to these places for high-class shopping, trendy restaurants and bars, as well as spectacular scenery.
