Catch a show at the historic Estates Theatre, where the world premiere of Mozart's Don Giovanni was held in 1787. The famous opera, along with a number of ballets, concerts and dramas, will be performed this month (1 Ovocny Trh, estatestheatre.cz).

The outdoor Easter markets (17 March-7 April) usher in spring and can be found in just about every city district, including the popular Vinohrady and Zizkov neighborhoods. But the market on Old Town Square is by far the largest and busiest. Open daily from 9am to 8pm, local venders hawk crafts, jewellery and crates full of coloured Easter eggs.
Now in its 15th year, the One World Film Festival, which focuses on human rights, showcases more than 100 documentaries from around the world and is one of the capital's top cultural events. Screenings take place at the historic Lucerna Cinema (61 Stepanska) and other smaller art-house theatres around the city (4-13 March, oneworld.cz).

Prague spares no expense when it comes to carnival, offering spirited parades, flamboyant costumes, flashy masked balls and plenty of pork. The ritzy Clam-Gallas Palace (20 Husova) will host a number of Baroque concerts and dances. Meanwhile, a carnival stage will be erected on Old Town Square, offering a steady stream of afternoon entertainment.
