Check out Bournemouth's Gardens Of Light Festival over Christmas, with interesting and quirky illuminations, light pods, art installations and a floodlit outdoor ice rink. Afterwards, head up to the town square for a warming glass of gluhwein, and live music at the traditional Alpine market. It's on from 12 November 2015 until 3 January 2016.
Take a bracing spring walk on Hengistbury Head for fantastic views over Christchurch harbour, the Isle of Wight and the Purbecks.
Just a 20-minute drive from Bournemouth, the New Forest is a great place to go for a wonderfully wintery walk in the woods. Look out for the ponies and deer too.
