Cheap flights to Stockholm
Magnificent waterways, islands, palaces and parks, Sweden’s capital is a must for anyone interested in beautiful cities. You’d be forgiven for thinking of meatballs, snow and furniture stores when we mention Stockholm. The fact is, the Swedes are indeed masters of design, and they certainly know how to whip up a tasty meatball or two.
But look a little closer at Sweden’s capital city, and you’ll forget the clichés and find a stunning coastal city made up of 14 islands, over 50 bridges and more green spaces than almost any other city in Europe.
And with an edgy music scene, a slew of trendy bars and more underground clubs than in most European cities, Stockholm is also a capital of cool that makes for a great city break destination no matter what you are looking for.
The island of Skeppsholmen is the almost impossibly pretty setting for Stockholm Music and Arts Festival over the weekend of 29-31 July. Ms. Lauryn Hill, Kraftwerk, Sigur Rós, Yayoi Kusama, Joan Baez, Rufus Wainwright and Air are among the eclectic array of headliners. stockholmmusicandarts.com
A short underground journey southwest of central Stockholm, the leafy suburb of Midsommarkransen is a haven for vintage and new interiors shopping. Check out vendors including Svenska Armaturer, Mimmi Staaf Möbelmakeri and Dunke Design and pick up everything from a cool reclaimed industrial pendant light to a reupholstered retro armchair. kransenkartan.com
Stockholm's famous archipelago starts just outside the city centre and ends a couple of hours eastwards by boat with Soderarm on the tiny island of Torskar. Based around a historic lighthouse and a former military installation, it's home to a small hotel hosting nature and outdoor activities and featuring a wood fired sauna in an old seafront bunker. soderarm.com
