Palazzo del Freddo
 This enormous ice cream parlour and workshop grandly (and quite rightly) calls itself the ‘Palace of Cold'. Pause here for a traditional Italian ice cream, choc ice or semifreddo dessert, to eat at a table or takeaway. If you're planning on making a meal of it, don't miss the brioche buns filled with gelato and whipped cream. The fruit flavours are seasonal, so expect different specialities throughout the year.

Emma
This gourmet pizzeria, down a cute cobbled street, specialises in carefully sourced pizza toppings on a light, crunchy dough. Don't miss the typical Roman deep fried starters, including stuffed courgette flowers and golden breadcrumbed riceballs. Pizzas include classics such as cheese and tomato and Quattro Stagioni, as well as more ambitious versions combining Sicilian anchovies and quails' eggs.

Altrove
This extraordinary social dining project offers a menu inspired by the five continents, including ceviche, cous cous, kofta and curries plus Italian delicacies from Sardinian bottarga to cheese sourced from a local prison project. The secret is in the kitchen, entirely staffed by local youths, migrants and refugees, who contribute their own recipes and get a second start in life.

Eataly Raw Fish
Food emporium Eataly's in house fishmonger has become both fish counter and restaurant specialising in raw fish delicacies. Choose from plates of tuna, bream and mackerel carpaccio, or try Italian rarities such as violet prawns, locally harvested seaweed, octopus, shellfish and several kinds of oyster. A great selection of local wines completes the menu, served every evening from 19.00 until 23.00.

Kisaki Ramen & Sushi
Specialising in ramen and sushi, this brand new, minimalist spot offers competitive prices for authentic Japanese food.
