Everybody loves Bristol. Not only for its picturesque harbour, its Georgian streets, and its beautiful setting on the River Avon, but also for its lively music scene, world-class restaurants and beautiful countryside surroundings. Located in the south west of England, Bristol’s setting can only be described as idyllic.
Riverside views surrounded by rolling hills and the city’s very own 400 acres of parkland known as The Downs all do their bit to attract tourists in their thousands. Once here, visitors can expect a city that revels in its pre-Victorian heritage with plenty of Georgian squares, crescents and churches to feast your eyes on. And when you’re not gawping at the magnificent buildings, you’ll no doubt be down at the trendy harbour checking out the bars, restaurants cafes and museums.

Stop off in one of the many pubs and bars for a refreshing glass of West Country cider.

Just north of Bristol is the Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Gloucestershire which is hosting its 2013 Festival of Birds on 26 and 27 January. There will be a range of conservation talks from experts, a range of workshops, great gifts for wildlife lovers and plenty of activities, arts and crafts for all the family (wwt.org.uk/visit/slimbridge).
