One of the most important holidays in Cyprus is the Epiphany on 6 January. Join the mid-morning festivities down at Paphos harbour as young people dive for a cross, symbolising the renewal of mankind's purity.

Petra tou Romiou, the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love, is a short drive from Paphos and a wonderful spot for a paddle or a picnic. Buses also run throughout the day to this picturesque place, known as "Aphrodite's Rock", departing from Paphos Harbour bus depot.

Head up to the striking Ayios Neofytos Monastery near Tala which was started by its namesake as a retreat cave complex in the 12th century. Make sure you stop for a few minutes at the Monastery Cats Shelter round the corner to pet the cats or donate a tin of food.
