Attractions in Fiesole

The main draw for any holiday to Fiesole is the truly fascinating archaeology and museum. Taking in Tuscany's rich history, the archaeology area features Roman and Etruscan relics. Before being conquered by the Romans in 90BC the Etruscans built an ancient temple, tombs and the city walls, which can still be seen today. The best-preserved building is the amphitheatre, whilst the Roman baths are also well worth investigating.

The 14th century Church and Convent of San Francesco overlooks Fiesole, and it's a treasure trove of paintings and Catholic artwork, including an altarpiece by Neri di Bicci. There is also a lovely park next to the church, with magnificent views reaching across to Florence.

Probably the first port of call on any holiday to Fiesole, the main square - Piazzo Mino - is the social centre of the town. The attractive 14th century town hall, Palazzo Pretorio, is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in the region’s history, whilst be sure to visit the striking 11th Duomo san Romolo. The cathedral features a breathtaking 13th century bell tower, and is home to a collection of frescoes by Mino da Fiesole.
