Copenhagen

A year-round destination, Copenhagen offers boat trips, outdoor cafés and restaurants, and heaps of shopping streets, not to mention one of the world's most famous amusement parks. And don't forget the superb beaches just up the coast, highly tempting prospects if the weather plays fair.

Bakken, the world's oldest amusement park, is located in the idyllic forest of Klampenborg. It actually boasts three times as many rides as in Tivoli. However, the latter shouldn't be missed either, as it's the must of all musts in Copenhagen, with amusement rides, restaurants, concert halls, theatres and gardens.

Don't miss the Round Tower, Købmagergade 52a (3373 0373; open daily, DKK 15), Copenhagen's best look-out point and Europe's oldest observatory.

The best place to gain info on the city's history is Copenhagen City Museum, Vesterbrogade 59, Vesterbro (3321 0772, closed am and all day Tues; DKK 20, free Fri).
