Santa Ponsa holidays

Santa Ponsa is a lively resort town in the south of Majorca. This popular family resort has evolved from an old fishing village to become a vibrant holiday destination which is just 12 miles west of Palma, making for a quick transfer from the airport following your flight from the UK.

Explore Santa Ponsa

Santa Ponsa holidays really do have something for everyone. There are three golf courses to choose from, and a scuba diving school. If you’d rather relax, Santa Ponsa beach is wide and sandy but if it gets too crowded you can slip away to a more secluded cove just a few minutes’ walk along the coast. Both beaches are safe with clear, shallow waters that make them perfect for children. The pine wooded area behind the beach has some interesting walking tracks and, if you are lucky, you may spot the odd colourful parakeet on your journey.

The shopping in Santa Ponsa is plentiful with a variety of gift and souvenir shops, and nearby Palma has a wide range of designer shops as well as a daily craft market. There is a larger market held every Wednesday at Puerto Andratx, which is popular with both locals and visitors as it sells some wonderful local produce.

Exploring Santa Ponsa

Santa Ponsa is also famous for hosting two major fiestas over the summer. Rocio, held every June, is a weeklong Andalucian religious festival. The Fiesta of Rei en Jaume is a mammoth two week celebration marking the landing and conquering of Mallorca by King Jaime I in 1229, and is held in September. Both of these are great opportunities to learn more about local Majorcan culture, and you’ll find that the residents are very friendly.

Places for day trips include Aqualand, a large theme park close to Magaluf, and the resort of Paguera is also worth a visit. Famous tennis players such as Boris Becker have given Paguera Tennis Centre the thumbs up, and you could follow in their footsteps. Magaluf is also easily reachable from Santa Ponsa, where you’ll find the famous Pirates Adventure show that will keep the kids entertained.

Going out in Santa Ponsa

Santa Ponsa has a great selection of international restaurants including Spanish, Italian and Chinese, and as it attracts a lot of Irish and Scottish travellers, there are lots of Celtic-themed bars and pubs to be found, such as Rebels or Scottish Corner. Clubbers will feel at home in Disco Infernal, the Havana Club or Caramba, whilst live music fans can hit Stepps Music Bar. Families will be pleased to know that many of the bars have play areas for children or kid’s club facilities, and there’s a children’s mini disco just off the main square in the resort. With Magaluf and Palma both a short distance away, this only adds to the wide choice of eating establishments, bars and clubs on offer during your Santa Ponsa holiday.
