Located on the north coast of the Greek island of Corfu, Acharavi is a quiet and charming town. It has become an increasingly popular resort in recent years, and yet still manages to hold onto its old-worldly allure.
Because of Acharavi and its neighbouring resorts’ popularity, several airports throughout the UK fly to Corfu. Acharavi is just a 40-minute drive from the airport and whilst many airport transfers can seem rather stressful, sit back and enjoy the scenic journey and you’ll be in holiday mode in no time.
Acharavi itself lies along the long, half-moon shaped beach, with tavernas, boutiques and beach bars spreading out from the sands. Whether it’s a stroll along the golden sands or a dip ultramarine waters, the beaches of Acharavi are perfect for soaking up those high island temperatures. But fear not, it’s not all sand and soaking in Acharavi

The Roman Baths
The Roman Baths of Acharavi have been discovered just 32 years ago, during an excavation in preparation for building a house. Speculation mounted that it was part of a large Roman building until parts of the hypocaust and channel carrying warm water in the baths were actually salvaged. Today, visitors can explore this archaeological site, making for an interesting afternoon’s sightseeing (that won’t use up a whole day!).
The Doric Temple
Venture a little further away from the Roman Baths, and you’ll stumble across the ancient remains of a Doric Temple, which experts suspect was built in honour of the god Apollo. Apollo was known as the God of Healing and was the son of Zeus. Whether you’re into your Greek mythology or not, the temple is a majestic thing to wander around – with a bona fide photo opportunity or two!
The Hydropolis Water Park
This attraction is perfect for families with children, or simply those who refuse to grow up. The Hydropolis Water Park features countless water-based activities including whirlwind slides, a Lazy River that will gently whisk you around the park, and a shallow paddling pool with fountains. The park also features a petting zoo that children will adore, with animals such as ducks, geese, peacocks, rabbits and ostriches on parade.
The beach of Acharavi
The golden sands, lush greenery and gorgeous water of this beach make for the perfect setting. The waters of Acharavi’s beach remain shallow for several metres, making it perfect for little ones who haven’t quite started swimming. There are numerous water sports activities on offer, including water skiing, boat hire and parasailing, so if sunbathing seems a little too relaxing, you can always liven things up.
When in Greece, it’d be rude not to sample some of the local delicacies and acquaint yourself with a little traditional Greek cuisine, really. You’ll soon learn there’s a lot more to Greek food than gyros (although they are delicious too!). Try some dolmades with a drink before dinner – little leaf-wrapped mincemeat and rice parcels. Fresh fish is also really popular in Corfu, especially so close to the shore, so expect to see the local catch of the day on most menus. For something more hearty, go for a souvlaki. Made up of seasoned meat cooked on a skewer, souvlaki comes with herby chips and tzatziki. Delicious!
If you’ve got a sweet tooth then you’ll most likely be eating a delicious combination of nuts, honey, fruits, and filo pastry, otherwise known as baklava. Gluten-free eaters will be on board with amygdalota – tiny gluten-free almond biscuits that are perfect for a morning or afternoon coffee.
