Ski Holidays in Val Frejus

Val Frejus in France is one of the youngest ski resorts in the French Alps. Established in 1983, the resort sits on the wooded slopes of the Maurienne valley, close to the Vanoise National Park and the Fréjus Tunnel on the Italian border.

The modern, purpose built resort is designed to a high standard, but is still based on the traditional village style of the much older resorts. Val Frejus is at an altitude of 1550m with the highest point at 2737m, which means that snowfall is very reliable during the ski season, but there are 18 snow canons just in case.

Activities in Les Val Frejus

There’s over 65km of pistes available to ski and they’re suitable for all ski and snowboard abilities. Beginners have four green runs to test their skills on the Plateau d'Arrondaz, with many of the long slopes giving plenty of room to practise. The mountain restaurant here is also a good spot to recharge and admire the beautiful scenery.

Val Frejus is particularly good for intermediate skiers and boarders who will have lots of fun on the resort’s cruising blue runs. There are 11 in total including the 13km Jeu run, which runs past the Ouvrage Pas du Roc, a former WWII bunker.

Advanced skiers will find more challenging runs in the higher regions. There are five red runs and three black and there are very good deep snow slopes and off piste options for boarders as well as mogul slopes for skiers. Val Frejus has a snowpark and also caters for cross-country skiers.

For those wanting to enjoy an even larger range of slopes for a day, can take advantage of the surrounding skiing regions of La Norma and Aussois with a special ski pass. They offer a further 120 km of ski slopes. The Three Valleys region is also available with a day pass for half of the regular price.

Val Frejus village benefits from a good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants. Bars are lively with themed nights and restaurants offer French and Italian cuisine. If you want to try something other than skiing and snow boarding then the resort has plenty of other activities to enjoy including an ice rink, paragliding and heli-skiing.
