Copenhagen Markets

There are a number of charming Christmas markets to enjoy in Denmark, but if you’re looking for the most famous of them all – offering a real Danish flavour this Christmas – head to Copenhagen and the Christmas Market of Tivoli Gardens.

Visit Copenhagen Christmas Market on your Denmark Holidays

Located in the wonderful vicinity of downtown Copenhagen, Tivoli has an ideal situation for holidaymakers in the city; it’s near many fantastic eateries, shopping spots, hotels and entertainment venues. The market itself, open from November 11th, is a true winter wonderland with spectacular illuminations, elegant scenery and an array of simple Danish treats to choose from. As you wander the Tivoli stalls you’ll find the specialities such as the hot and spicy red wine drink Glogg and Aebleskiver usually accompanied with a pan-fried cake, sugar and jam. There are a section of restaurants to choose from within the market area too, many serving traditional Danish Christmas dinners with liver pate, meat balls, pickled herring and other local Danish delights.

For children on holidays in Copenhagen this Christmas, visit Tivoli’s ‘Land of Elves’ where they can watch the mechanical elves preparing for Christmas and they’ll have the chance to meet Father Christmas himself! If you get a bit chilly in the capital, find a spot to stop and warm yourself next to the warming fires or grab yourself a cup of rich Danish hot chocolate.

If you’re looking to do a spot of Christmas shopping make sure you visit the mile-long shopping street of Stroget and explore the shops here, which will all be decked out for the holiday season with impressive garlands and illuminations. For those who appreciate a good serving of Danish beer make sure you visit the breweries of the city. You might notice the Tuborg or Carlsberg wagons on your stay too, decked out with Christmas decorations to celebrate the holiday season! Don’t forget to spend time in the numerous good bars, restaurants and cafes across the city too.
