Things to do  

The landscape in the Algarve varies greatly, so there are plenty of things to do, to the beaches and beyond.  

Check out the Reserva Natural da Ria Formosa is stretches of mud flats, which are home to lots of interesting wildlife and birds, or head over to the Serrade Monchique are lush green mountains and wooded area, and a prime location for bike riding, or hiking.  

You can always explore one of the Algarve’s small, sleepy towns, and soak up the local life, or head to one of the bigger resorts for a great range of activities, restaurants and nightlife – Albufeira is regarded as the tourist capital. Faro is one of the Algarve’s most historical areas, and is surrounded by Roman walls which date back to the 9th century.  

The Algarve is renowned for its prime golf conditions, and Tavira has the best selection of golf courses.  

For the evenings of you want a great party atmosphere with plenty of nightlife, try Lagos and Albufeira.  


The Algarve has a hundred miles of beaches, with plenty of variety. The stunning jagged cliff faces make for a dramatic backdrop to some beaches, from huge long stretches of sandy paradise, to tiny coves, there’s plenty to explore. Families should head to the central and western areas of the Algarve for the best family-friendly resorts which have everything on hand to make the perfect holiday.  

Summer in the Algarve
