Build the perfect sandcastle

Build the perfect sandcastle.

Head to Newquay and celebrate The Great British Summer by building the perfect sandcastle.

With twelve beaches within easy reach of town, including the famous Fistral, the fabulously named Lusty Glaze and stunningly beautiful Crantock, there’s plenty of places to get creative with those trusty buckets and spades.

Here’s Visit Newquay’s tips on how to make yours the finest for miles.

You will need:

1. One spade or a pair of hands!
2. Sunscreen - don't forget to put some on!
3. Various-size buckets
4. SAND!

Step 1
Mark a rough circle in the moist sand not too close to the water's edge. (moist sand packs together better)

Step 2
Scoop wet sand onto the centre of the area in which you'll be working. Work fast so the sand stays wet! Once you've got a good mound pat it down with your hands or the back of a spade

Step 3
Flatten the top of the mound and using your buckets filled with sand, make smaller turrets on the top. Do the same around the outside of your mound. Your castle is really taking shape!

Step 4
Dig a moat around the castle to protect it from invaders, including naughty dogs or pesky little brothers and sisters,

Step 5
Get creative by adding stones, shells, flags or even a windmill.

Step 6
Take a photo and share it on our Facebook page, we can’t wait to see it.
