The Royal Dick
It's worth locating this eccentric bar within the Summerhall arts venue. Originally home to Edinburgh's veterinary school, the Royal Dick pays homage to its odd origins by retaining authentic fittings like its fascinating adjustable operating tables. The bar nevertheless retains an air of understated sophistication, matched by a generous selection of spirits, wines and beer - including its exclusive Summerhall Pale Ale.

Good Brothers Wine Bar

The bar is run by two Edinburgh brothers with a passion for unusual wines, many of which are organic or biodynamic - the global range includes some interesting grape varietals and even some orange wines!   From the discarded suitcases that make the ba, to the 1930s cinema seating, almost all materials used to build Pilgrim have been salvaged or recycled. But this isn't only a hotspot for the eco-conscience. This is the perfect place to start your evening, as its buzzing character and delicious cocktails will get you in the mood.

Jazz Bar
Edinburgh's award-winning Jazz Bar prides itself on providing live performances every night to an excellent standard. Its bar serves a range of spirits, beers and cocktails, but you will want to keep your focus on the impressive artists the venue attracts. There is normally a small entry fee for most gigs, but this goes straight to the musicians and none to the venue.

The Mousetrap
A gentle stroll down towards the bottom of Leith Walk brings you to this fun board game-themed and self-proclaimed dive bar. Mainly the décor revolves around the perennially popular Mousetrap that shares the bar's name, but there are nods to a number of others around the place - how many will you spot? There's a back room of arcade games to keep you occupied, plus live DJs and a well-stocked bar including some local brews and a whole lot of flavoured vodkas. All the ingredients for a fun night out with friends.
