Tucked just behind the cathedral in the former episcopal palace, you will find the Museu Diocesà, which is well worth checking out on an overcast day. The inner courtyard is beautiful and leads to a large collection of Arab tapestries, along with beautiful ceramics spanning five centuries (bisbatdemallorca.com).

The Sa Rua Carnival takes place during the last two weeks of February, marking the last weekend before Lent. An array of bonfires, fancy dress and processions of decorated floats can be seen across the island.

Palma celebrates its patron saint Sebastian for a whole week, with the main events starting on 19 January including concerts, exhibitions and firework displays. In the evening, bonfires and barbecues are held in the streets and squares where sobrassada and botifarrons (sausages) are roasted.

The La Reserva park is close to the village of Puigpunyent and offers a fascinating view of the local flora and fauna. You'll find waterfalls, bizarre stone formations and signs of ancient cultures. No hunting is allowed, which makes it a paradise for local animals, including the three bears that have recently been rehomed from northern Spain.
