Key Areas

The cathedral square is a good place to start a stroll around the historic quarter of Almería. The narrow atmospheric streets are full of bars and restaurants, leading down to the port and seafront.

Day Trips

The hamlet of La Isleta del Moro in the coastal Cabo de Gata natural park has a population of less than 100 people, yet it stands at one of the most privileged spots on Spain's Mediterranean. Situated on a small promontory, jutting out into the sea, eating a meal in this wonderful spot is a good way to end the day after a walk to see the surrounding coves.

In the heat of July, a day at the beach is always a good plan. And some of the best beaches in Spain lie to the north of the city in the Cabo de Gata natural park. The town of San José, with its wonderful seafood restaurants, is a good starting point. Nearby are unspoilt volcanic sands and coves where building has been banned under environmental protection laws.
