À do Joåo
In Farol (not to be confused with Faro), accessible only by ferry and with a superb on its doorstep, À do Joåo is a perfect laid back island restaurant. As you'd expect, fresh fish is the thing here, as well as sumptuous cataplana (a fish stew cooked in a wok-like pan).

Adega Nova
Expect to be shuffled onto a bench alongside locals in a barn-like restaurant which serves epic portions of fresh fish and grilled meats, including Bife Na Pedra, a steak brought to your table on a sizzling hot stone.

Good Quality Restaurants

There's something satisfying about earning your meal and after a walk over a wooden bridge and across sand dunes to get here, you can certainly do that at Gigi's, which sits behind the beach of Praia da Quinta do Lago. This is the place to tuck into fresh fish and seafood; the grilled prawns are a must.

Bon Bon
  This small, unassuming evenings-only restaurant in the resort of Carvoeiro has gained a Michelin Star thanks to its sumptuous creative cuisine by chef Rui Silvestre. The tasting menu features the likes of blue lobster with ginger, mullet with squid and steak with morels and goose liver; each dish is paired with a quality wine.

Restaurante Ria Formosa
On the top floor of the Hotel Faro, the restaurant has superb views across Faro's old town and the marina. The menu features a modern take on traditional Algarvian dishes, such as cataplana de ameijoas (clam stew). There's also live music on Saturday evenings (usually jazz or fado).
