Faro Nightlife

Sal Rosa
A cosy lounge bar sat atop a cliff top, with great views down to the town beach below. The innovative cocktails are blended using local ingredients: try the Algarvian Daiquiri, made with almond liqueur, lime and honey.

Tapas e Lendas
Portuguese tapas (or petiscos) might not be as well known as its Spanish cousins, but this attractive bar is a great place to try it. There's an upstairs terrace, outside seats and nibbles such as salted cod rissoles, sausage and goats cheese with honey to have with a selection of wines and beers.

Address: 18 Rua Dr Manuel Ariaga, Olhão | Telephone: 289 706 429 |

Vila Adentro
This attractive café/bar/restaurant springs a real surprise: head through the back for an interior room beautifully lined with colourful azulejos (ceramic tiles), from where steps lead down to a secret tunnel (allegedly once used to escape from sieges). A great drink spot to mull over the building's history.

Address: 17 Praça Dom Afonso III | Telephone: 289 052 173 |

This small bar is the focus of Tavira's nightlife, open until 2am and with a long menu of shots and cocktails. There are tables outside facing the main square for a cooling breath of night air.

CheSsenta Bar
This intimate split-level bar squeezes in a fair proportion of Faro's students for its regular live music spots, which vary in quality but are always fun and lively.

Address: 24 Rua do Prior | Telephone: 931 194 314 |

Cantaloupe Café
At the back of Olhão's market, with fantastic views across the water, this fashionable bar has outdoor tables and live jazz at weekends; it also has jamming sessions on a Thursday.
