Krakow Sightseeing

Sightseeing

April 2013
Krakow may be renowned for its beatufiul, gothic architecture, but some new builds are giving the city a reputation for good design too. The Małopolska Garden of Arts, on Ulica Grabowskiego, is an award-winning glass construction that fits seamlessly into its old surroundings.

January 2013
The Krakow Opera will be showing several classic operas this winter, including Strauss's Die Fledermaus, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, and Bizet's Carmen (48 Ulica Lubicz, opera.krakow.pl).

Key Areas

January 2013
Once home to Krakow's Jewish community, the district of Kazmierz has a tragic history. Over time the synagogues have largely been converted into museums and the area has emerged as a social and cultural hub, filled with some of the city's top galleries and cafes.

October 2012
Once an independent city, and eventually home to Krakow's Jewish community, Kazimierz has a moving history, which many will have seen in the backdrop of the film Schindler's List. Today, it is the hub of Krakow's alternative arts scene and bohemian nightlife.

Day Trips

April 2013
If you need a time out from the summer heat, try going underground at Wieliczka Salt Mines. A maze of caverns, beautiful chapels, hotels, a spa and tour guides armed with great salt-based puns make this place feel like a whole city. It's a 15 minute taxi ride away from the centre of Krakow.

January 2013
This time of year, all of Poland heads to Zakopane, the country's premier mountain resort roughly 100km south of Krakow. This lovely little town is worth visiting even for those averse to skiing, the most popular pastime along the Tatra mountains.
