Horticulturists, botanists, landscape architects and garden lovers from around Europe and from farther afield will congregate for the International Garden Show on the Elbe island Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg. Inspired by Jules Verne, the show will be entitled “Around the World in 80 Gardens” and will run from 26 April to 13 October. (igs-hamburg.de/en)

The life and work of Swiss sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti is celebrated by a pair of exhibitions this winter. At the Hamburg Kunsthalle, Giacometti - The Playing Fields (from 25 January 25 until 19 May), presents four decades of the surrealist artist's works while over at the Bucerius Kunst Forum, Alberto Giacometti - Encounters (from 26 January until 20 May), focuses on the artist's portraits.
