Cheap Restaurants

Boli Cafe
This is a friendly Korean place with seriously crazy wallpaper which looks hand painted. They have three set menus, one of which is vegetarian, and a massive selection of drinks including cocktails, Korean beer and wine. Be sure to try the aloe vera juice.

Address: 31 rue Gambetta | Telephone: 09 5030 8141 |

Le Foxy
This funky canteen serves tapas including goats' cheese spring rolls, and beef gravlax, but best is to get a platter for two (20 euros) and let owner Yann choose what's best that day. Try the mango and basil mojito, and leave room for the homemade cheesecake. Book ahead.

Address: 2 avenue Paul Sejourne 31000 Toulouse | Telephone: 0981648169 |

La Pastasciutta
Very authentic Italian pizzeria - even down to the children's clothes hanging up on washing lines across the ceiling "to dry". They serve three sizes of pizza, all made in a real woodfire oven. Even the medium is huge, so ask for a box if you can't eat it all.

Address: 35 B rue Gabriel Peri | Telephone: 05 6162 6939 |

Affordable Restaurants

Winter City
The cheery red tablecloths accent the monochrome, modern decor, reflecting the warm atmosphere. Start with gazpacho or salad and then get grilled duck, salmon, prawns or steak. You'll have difficulty finding room for the chocolate cake, but do try!

Address: 8 rue Maury, Place Saint Aubin | Telephone: 09 8325 9228 |

Rajasthan Villa
Head here for beautiful, intricate decor, like the amazing Indian chandeliers. The menu includes familiar dishes including aubergine bhaji and chicken tikka masala. As most people in France don't like chilli, let them know if you like your curries hot.

Address: 4 rue de l Esquile | Telephone: 05 3444 9191 |

Chez Emile
On a cold winter's day this is the place to go for excellent comforting cassoulet, or pigeon with spices and vegetable tajine. Leave room for the rum baba with fresh fruit minestrone, or the fabulous hot Grand Marnier souffle.

Address: 13 Place Saint Georges | Telephone: 05 6121 0556 |

Good Quality Restaurants

Le Cenacle
This boutique hotel restaurant at the Cour des Consuls has comfortable armchairs and a massive classical mural. Try the carrot soup and the duck, which is delicious. Service is efficient and discreet, making it ideal for a date, or a quiet celebration.

Address: Hôtel La Cour des Consuls, 46 Rue des Couteliers | Telephone: 05 6716 1999 |

Chez Fifi
This intimate unpretentious little restaurant serves deceptively simple dishes like caramelised pork and chicken supreme. Book ahead, and don't be surprised to find yourself discussing cuisine with the chef over coffee.
