Lyon Shopping
(Rue René Leynaud) Passage Thiaffait offers a myriad of locally designed clothing for all tastes. Don't miss out on this artsy area, where you can stumble across small workshops and outlets perfect for quirky gift ideas.
With the sales in full flow, fashionistas should head to the "Golden Square" off place Bellecour (rues Gaspard and Edouard Herriot) for Dior, Hermès and the like. Lyon's huge and amply filled shopping centres - Part Dieu, Confluence and Le Soie - offer all the leading high street names as well as one-off boutiques.
Head to Jane Aubert and Anne Fontaine (Rue Président Edouard Herriot, 2nd) for reasonably priced classic women's fashion and Spanish designer Massimo Dutti for more bright and festive designs. In the same neighbourhood, along Rue Ferrandière, you'll find a gift for the whisky connoisseur on your list at The Whisky Lodge. Pop into Espace Ferrano (opposite) for swanky designer accessories and Descamps (linen) on the same street.
Hop on the green-line metro in the direction of Vaise and jump off at the Valmy stop (about 10 minutes from Bellecour). Rue de St Cyr (9th) and Grande Rue de Vaise have some great off-the-beaten-track venues, including Delpol for designer shoes at low prices, Filanzane for cushions and tablecloths and Karma Living for fine Egyptian bed linen and Zen-like living.
