Cheap flights to Corsica Ajaccio
Discover the historic heart of Corsica with a visit to Ajaccio.
Elegant restaurants and bijou cafes nestle amongst the palm trees lining the boulevards of this historic Corsican town.
With its relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere, Ajaccio is home to charming traditional boutiques just waiting to be discovered; remember to bring a spare suitcase as you’re bound to find a bargain or two.
Upon arriving it doesn’t take long to figure out the town’s most famous son; statues, street names and shop fronts all pay tribute to the great French military leader Napoleon Bonaparte, who was born in Ajaccio in 1769. Those wishing to learn more about the illustrious man can take a tour around the Bonaparte family home in the centre of town, which has been converted into a museum.
If you’re looking for a bit of sand and sea then you can find golden sandy beaches just ten minutes out of town, with plenty of water sports for the more active holidaymaker.
Held in Town Hall Square from Tuesday to Sunday, the Ajaccio markets are famed for their quality local produce. Pick up some hill-farmed Ajaccian honey, delicately flavoured with chestnut kernels, or a basket of sea-fresh mussels. Like most markets, it's an early start: by noon, it's like it never happened.
Corsica's dramatic landscape provides a spectacular backdrop to large-scale sporting events. This summer Ajaccio hosts The Imperial Regatta, and early June will see the Tour de France whizzing by.
